Milestones Clinical and Health Resources was born from Stone Belt’s commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
As Stone Belt’s residential programs expanded throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it became increasingly clear that many individuals also needed specialized behavioral, nursing, social work, and mental health services that were difficult to find in the community. Stone Belt responded by building an in-house team of skilled professionals who adapted their expertise to meet the unique needs of people with developmental disabilities.

As demand grew beyond the organization, Stone Belt expanded these services in 2000 to individuals and families throughout south-central Indiana.
The program reached a defining “Milestone” in 2004 with the hiring of its first full-time psychiatrist and the opening of a dedicated clinic on South Adams Street in Bloomington. At that point, Milestones Clinical and Health Resources was officially established under the leadership of Maureen Gahan, whose vision helped transform the program into a regional resource for children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities.
Today, Milestones is recognized as Stone Belt’s certified outpatient mental health clinic, serving more than 1,000 people each year. The clinic offers a comprehensive continuum of care.

Our professional staff includes master’s-level therapists, behaviorists, and clinical social workers who support clients through assessments, medication evaluation, play therapy, individual, group, and family therapy, and behavioral support and therapy. Milestones also offers parent and family educational workshops and classes. By combining evidence-based clinical practices with Stone Belt’s longstanding philosophy of positive, person-centered supports, Milestones continues to fill a critical gap in behavioral health services across south-central Indiana and remains a cornerstone of Stone Belt’s mission to help people live healthier, more independent, and fulfilling lives.
